Alumni Spotlight: Sarah Martens, Facebook

As we enter our fourth year and welcome our 10th cohort of interns, we would like to occasionally share what some of our former interns are doing now.

Sarah Martens interned at Omnium in Fall 2019 and Fall 2020, graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor’s of Math in Statistics in April 2021, and recently joined Facebook as a Data Scientist in New York City.

Never Underestimate the Scientist in Data Science

Michelle became aware of Omnium during the summer of 2020 when her planned internship with the Canadian Government was canceled due to Covid-19. She ended up taking an online class that summer and then joined Omnium as an intern in the fall. Michelle liked Omnium so much she returned for a second term in the summer of 2021 and joined as a full time Data Scientist in January 2022 following her completion of a Bachelor’s in Statistics from the University of Waterloo.

Data Scientist Jasmine Qin, who joined Omnium full time in February, had originally planned to work in the insurance industry. She completed two co-op terms in that field plus an internship in telecommunications while earning a Bachelor’s in Actuarial Science and Statistics from the University of Waterloo.
