Big Experience Comes from Analyzing Small Transactions

At Omnium we use analytics and data science to help packaged food manufacturers increase retail shelf presence and sales, ultimately achieving whatever business metric is most meaningful to them (e.g. gross revenue, net revenue, or profit). We develop solutions through a variety of methods based on our robust understanding of aggregate shopper behavior. Understanding preferences and purchasing decisions of end consumers, as well as the priorities of multiple retailers, allows us to help brand clients incent retailer decisions (such as as everyday or promotional pricing, acceptance of new items and/or and expansion of distribution to more stores) that will help get their products into more shopping carts.

“Working at Omnium is unlike any other job I’ve ever had,” is something we hear often from new hires, and especially from interns. We firmly believe that interning at Omnium is the best opportunity out there for learning how to apply math and data science in a professional setting, regardless of your desired industry. With more than 30 million grocery and other consumer packaged goods transactions daily in the US, we have plenty of data to analyze.

Our interns are treated as an integral part of our team from day one and we learn from them just as often as they learn from us. As an intern you will work on major projects under the guidance of our senior staff, building new models to predict the best business strategies for our clients. Additionally, you will work on your own to develop innovative ways to solve client problems in your intern project. Previous intern projects have included estimating the probability that new items will succeed on shelf to help clients understand the likely outcomes of launching a new product, and predicting the success of new promo strategies at a given retailer. If you’re asked to do something and you don’t think that’s the right way to address a problem, we want to hear your point of view. Adding a new perspective always adds value and we count on interns to help us get better at analysis. In a case where there is more than one methodology or strategy suggested, our policy is always to try both. We’re in an industry where trying more than one model doesn’t significantly add cost, and by trying to solve problems more than one way, we are often able to ultimately serve our clients better.

Every full-time entry-level hire for the past three years has been a former Omnium intern and others have landed prestigious entry level roles at Apple, Boston Consulting Group, Facebook and Shopify. We offer three four-month internships per year beginning in January, May and September. Undergraduate and recent STEM graduates are encouraged to learn more about our program and apply by submitting a resume to careers@omnium.com, and applying on your college or university careers website (if applicable).
