Alumni Spotlight: Michelle Ko & Paige McDougall
We value Continuous Learning & Innovation at Omnium so while we’re always sad to see an employee move on, we’re also excited to see what they choose to pursue next. Data Scientist Michelle Ko and 3-term Intern Paige McDougall are both heading into exciting new chapters!
Like several of our team members, Michelle’s undergraduate degree is in statistics from University of Waterloo. She leveraged those analytical skills to serve our clients during two internships, Fall 2020 and Summer 2021, and joined Omnium full time in January 2022 supporting Lundberg and Oatly. As a full time data scientist, Michelle built upon her internship experience with an immersion in account planning that gave her a better understanding of the CPG business and enabled her to become more comfortable presenting to clients.
Now she has returned to the University of Waterloo to pursue a Master's in Statistics and develop an even higher level of analytical proficiency. Whether Michelle returns to Omnium, one of our clients, or another role in 2024, we know she will be a valuable team member!
Paige McDougall, who interned at Omnium over three semesters of her University of Waterloo Applied Mathematics degree, is always looking for opportunities to learn new things. Paige chose to study Applied Math at Waterloo because their co-op program allows students to alternate between four months in school and four months as full-time employees applying what they’ve learned in the classroom. After her first two internships–one at a bank and one at a software company–Paige was excited to find Omnium where she had a chance to “break the mold of formulaic co-op jobs and work with real data.”
This year Paige is embarking on a two-year Master's program at the University of Melbourne in Australia. She will be studying Statistics and Mathematical biology and is particularly interested in contributing to tumor research. Although she is only a few weeks into her studies in Melbourne, Paige has already had a chance to meet new people from all over the world and use the data manipulation skills she practiced at Omnium. She also plans to take advantage of the opportunity to travel throughout Australia, New Zealand, and South East Asia. We can’t wait to see the photos!
We are proud of our internship program and the nearly 40 talented STEM majors who have participated and seven who then accepted full time positions. We welcome applications for the May 2023 term.
